How can I register for a class?   
  1. Register online.  Click on Add to Shopping Cart to purchase a class.  This will take you to Paytrace, a secure site for  registering and paying via MasterCard orVisa.
  2. Register by mail.  Use the registration form in the back of the catalog or click here to print one. When registering by mail, you may pay by credit card or check.
  3. Visit our office.  You may pay with cash, credit card or check.
  4. Call us at 222-1095 and pay with a credit card.  



    FAQs for Online Registration:

    1.  Choose all your classes (left section of the form) before entering your billing information. 
    2.  If you are registering more than one person a class, change the Number Ordered and click Update Item Information.  After entering all the classes you for which you want to register, click Update Item Information again.
    3.  Please note you cannot use a Gorham Adult Education gift certificate when ordering online. 
    4.  After completing your order, fill in the billing information (right section of form).  Begin with either the Returning Customer section or New Customer section.  Do not fill in both.   
    5.  Be sure to answer all questions that have a red star including filling in your CSC number from the back of your credit card and checking off that you agree to the payment terms. 
    6.  Be sure to type in the blurred text word at the bottom of the page.
    7.  Finally, click submit order once.

Bead Making
These family friendly and fun hands on courses will get your creativity flowing! Come work with different materials that allow you to make and bake your own designs. You will leave with your own beads that can be used to make jewelry, earrings, key chains, sun catchers, and more. Creations in Clay  Add to Shopping Cart
Release your inner potter! Learn three hand building techniques (modeling, coil and slab construction) and how to make various containers and sculptural pieces. Once you know the basic skills, you’ll be able to explore the versatile nature of clay and create as many pieces as you’d like during the four classes. Clay pieces will be fired after the fourth class and the last class will be devoted to glazing. No prior experience or special skills required. Class dates: March 24, 25, 26, 27 and April 14. Mini Quilt Wall Hanging

T’ai Chi

T’ai Chi, which translates to “Supreme Ultimate,” often invokes an image of people rhythmically moving together in a public park at early dawn and harmonizing as one with nature. This basic introductory class will focus on a set of fun exercises that involve Qigong (Chi Kung) breathing exercises, push hands, and a basic introductory form. Students will leave at the end of each class feeling more relaxed with a calm peace of mind. No class 2/19.

Home Ownership in the Works

Not Your Ordinary Four Season Garden

Rain Gardens

Rain gardens are ecologically-friendly landscaped areas designed to soak up water from driveways, rooftops and other hard surfaces.  Learn everything you need to know to install one. Howard Maynard Faulkner, Professor Emeritus, USM completed genealogy courses at William & Mary College and the National Genealogical Society in Virginia. He has written for genealogy journals, speaks frequently at genealogy events and to the public. He teaches genealogy courses at Senior College, USM.

Genealogy and the Computer (Register by phone or mail)
Recommended for those who understand the content of the first course.  Topics to include: Important online genealogical resources will be discussed and demonstrated including; Message Boards, Newsletters, Genealogical Software and important websites for genealogists. Computer activities will include: Censuses, Family History Center research, Passenger Ships Lists, Ellis Island, Castle Island, National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), the DAR, etc.  The library has several computers available for class use however; participants with wireless laptop computers are encouraged to bring them to class.  A reference CD will be provided by the instructor.   This class is sponsored by Baxter Memorial Library, Gorham Adult Education and Professor Faulkner at no cost for community members.

Learn to Geocache

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game where participants, known as geocachers, find coordinates on a Web site to locate hidden boxes. In this hands-on, introductory class, participants will learn how to use a GPS unit to play the game and have an opportunity to put their new skills to use by locating an actual geocache. This is a family-friendly course offering and school age children are welcome.

Why Baseball Matters

The game of baseball, often called America’s “national pastime,” has been played for nearly 200 years. The history of baseball and its influence on the nation, region, and local area will be explored in this discussion-based course. The third and final meeting of the course will meet at Hadlock Field in Portland for a conference with Sea Dogs personnel and an Eastern League game. Price includes the cost of one ticket to the June 7th  game.  Class dates: May 17, 31 and June 7.

Mike Brady teaches at the University of Southern Maine. His course “Baseball and American Society: A Journey” has run for 12 consecutive summers and has won a national education award. Mike batted .188 in Little League but has been improving ever since.  Steve Small has taught at Gorham’s Village School for 22 years. Steve is a lifelong fan and has read widely on the game of baseball.  Steve was an all-star first baseman in Reading, Mass. and would be in the Baseball Hall of Fame if he could hit the curve ball.
